Charge Your Electric Vehicle (EV) With Solar Energy

Did you know your solar panels can fuel your electric vehicle? As part of your home energy management systems (HEMS), now you can save on electricity costs when you power your EV with solar panels. Here's why LG solar panels are the perfect pairing for an electric vehicle.

The NeON® R ACe can charge your EV directly from the sun

The NeON® R ACe is LG's premier AC module. It has a microinverter incorporated directly on the back of every panel which converts DC electricity into versatile AC electricity. For more info, check out this blog about the difference between microinverters and string inverters.

How many solar panels does it take to charge a typical electric car?

Each ACe module is like buying fuel for approximately 2,000 miles per year, or 50,000 miles over the 25-year warrantied lifetime of your system.1

Depending how much you drive, you can easily calculate how many panels your system would need to power your EV:

  • If you drive 2,000 miles/year, you need 1 panel

  • If you drive 10,000 miles/year, you need 5 panels

  • If you drive 20,000 miles/year, you need 10 panels

How much does it cost to charge an electric car?

If you compare the cost of fuel with solar-generated electricity, not only is it cheaper to power your electric vehicle with solar panels but it is also fixed. That way you are not vulnerable to changes in fuel price.

If one LG ACe module costs $10002 installed, and generates enough to fuel your car for 50,000 miles, that equates to 2 cent/mile. That means if you spend $3, you can drive 150 miles with solar - far longer than you can drive with $3 worth of gas in the tank.

Since solar reduces fueling costs significantly, installing panels can pay for themselves in as short as 4-6 years, keeping at least 19 years of payments in your wallet. There's never been a better time to go solar.
